Nairobi National Park

Nairobi National Park, opened in 1946, is the first national park in Kenya, yet one of the very few wildlife parks in the world to be situated within a capital city. It is the beautiful contrast between the wildlife and the urban living that gives Nairobi National Park its real beauty. On the safari drive, you will be peeking into stunning vistas of the African savannah, with the city skyline in the horizon. It is one of the very few across the world that offers a view of wild animals against a metropolitan backdrop and that too because of its location in respect to the urban setting.

Nairobi National Park is endowed with a rich wild species. Through it, a visitor can spot all varieties of wild species from the small to the gigantic like the African elephant and the endangered black rhinoceros. Other very famous ones include lions, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, and more than 400 species of birds. The park serves, among other purposes, as a facility for wildlife conservation and rehabilitation, where a number of endangered species find solace. The various ecosystems represented in the park are the savannahs, the forests, and the wetlands, all making it an ideal home for herbivores and predators.

Tips for Visiting
Best Time to Visit: Although the wildlife can be seen at virtually any time of the year, the best time to visit is during the dry season, from June through October.

Dress Appropriately: Leave in comfortable clothing in neutral colours that will not draw attention within the environment, and don’t forget a good slathering of sunscreen and a hat!

Respect Wildlife: Always keep a safe distance from animals and follow the guidelines the park rangers give to ensure your safety and well-being, as well as that of the wildlife.

Nairobi City
While Nairobi National Park is definitely one of the top highlights and attractions here, what dominates is a city full of experiences and teeming with life. From the energetic market ambience of the Maasai Market with its handcrafted souvenirs to rarely cleared historical overtones in the Nairobi National Museum, in this city, lies culture. More so, foodies should enjoy the available local Kenyan dishes and staples prepared internationally. You will not want to miss an opportunity to taste traditional nyama choma (grilled meat) at one of the numerous local establishments.

Nairobi is everything that spells the charm, culture and adventure of Kenya, smoothly melting the thrill of a real safari with the vibrancy of urban life. This wonderful relationship reminds us how wildlife and city living can thrive side by side, creating a rich, beautiful, peaceful and dynamic moment for locals and tourists.
